TEN people in the Borders have died in the last two weeks with coronavirus mentioned on their death certificate, new figures show.

Data released by the National Records of Scotland (NRS) today (Thursday, January 7) show that for the week beginning December 21, one person in the Borders had COVID-19 listed on their death certificate.

A further nine people had the virus written on their death certificate for the week beginning December 28.

Coronavirus deaths are published by the NRS every Wednesday, but the organisation took a break between December 23 and January 6 for the Christmas and New Year holidays.

Since the pandemic began, a total of 104 people in the Borders have had COVID-19 listed on their death certificate.

Nationally, the figure is 6,686.
