FIVE neighbourhoods in the Borders have seen some of the highest coronavirus infection rates in Scotland recently.

Data published by Public Health Scotland (PHS) show the number of new cases per 100,000 people based on the period from January 6-12.

In the Borders, five neighbourhoods have a rate of more than 400 per 100,000.

The highest rate in the Borders is in Hawick West End (1,030.6 per 100,000), followed by Hawick Central (756.5), Eyemouth (542.9), Burnfoot (536.7) and Hawick North (418.3).

Four neighbourhoods have case rates of 200-399 per 100,000; seven have rates of 100-199; and five areas have a rate of 50-99.

Nine areas had their rate data “suppressed” by PHS, with the body saying this is to "help protect patient confidentiality" as those areas recorded fewer than three positive cases.
