A HOUSING company is set to announce plans for a new 'major development' in Peebles.

Granton Homes has given notice to Scottish Borders Council (SBC) that it intends to submit a planning application to build residential properties within the grounds of Kingsmeadows House.

Last year, the company pulled its plans to erect seven houses on a disused bowling green and tennis court at the site, following public objection.

At the time, SBC planning officer Ranald Dods said that particular proposal would be "detrimental to the woodland resource, the setting of the listed building and the character and appearance of the conservation area and not be acceptable on road safety grounds".

A consultation will take place once the full details of the new plans have been announced.

The form sent to the council refers to the "erection of [a] residential development and associated works (major development)".

Granton Homes bought the Grade B-listed Georgian mansion and its grounds in 2014.
