A BORDERS motorist has been banned from the road after admitting driving while more than three times the legal alcohol limit.
Craig McNeill, 28, of Newcastleton, pleaded guilty to driving with a urine/alcohol count of 212 milligrammes - the legal limit being 67 - in Hawick's Albert Road at 11.20pm earlier this month.
Procurator fiscal Fraser Matheson said the vehicle had been stopped in connection with another matter when the smell of alcohol was detected.
Defence lawyer Stephanie Clinkscale told Jedburgh Sheriff Court her client had been drinking at a friend's house four or five hours previously but foolishly got into his car and drove.
McNeill was disqualified from driving for a year and fined £200 with a £10 victim surcharge imposed.
