STATISTICS suggest that a Borders town was one of Scotland’s property hotspots in 2020.

According to ESPC data – which covers the Borders, Edinburgh, the Lothians and Fife – Kelso saw the greatest year-on-year increase in average property selling price last year.

The Borders town saw the average selling price go from £147,542 to £214,232 – a rise of 45.2 per cent.

In Kelso last year, the highest amount that a property sold for was £970,000, with the lowest priced at £58,000.

Kelso also saw the greatest year-on-year increase in property sales – rising by 15.9 per cent.

The town achieved a 10.4 per cent year-on-year increase in homes coming to market in 2020, compared to 2019.

The data shows there was also a big increase in the number of properties sold for “at least Home Report valuation” – 53.2 per cent, up from 32 per cent during the previous year.

The median days for a property to be placed under offer was 40 days in 2020, compared with 62 days in 2019.
