A TEENAGE woman smashed a window at a Borders rugby ground after becoming annoyed that a male friend had hidden a knife from her, Jedburgh Sheriff Court has been told.

The man had initially contacted police at around 11.30pm on May 8 claiming 19-year-old Chloe Gallacher was feeling low and that he was concerned she was suicidal.

He traced her to the stand at Hawick Rugby Club where she was found to be intoxicated.

Depute fiscal Connor Muir said officers arrived on the scene and quickly established Gallacher - who was on holiday in Hawick - was not feeling suicidal and they took her home and left her in the care of the man.

However she and the man continued to drink alcohol in his home and her behaviour deteriorated once more as they walked along Mansfield Road.

Mr Muir said: "She was attempting to climb over fences. They arrived at the rugby club and sat in the stand.

“The accused asked the witness to retrieve cigarettes from her rucksack but when he searched it he found a knife inside and decided to hide the knife under a seat in the stand.

"The accused discovered the knife was missing and demanded that the man return it to her and when he refused she became irate.

"She smashed a window at the top of the stand with her right hand."

Mr Muir said that at 4.40am the man phoned the police again to report the incident.

Two officers went to the rugby club where they found Gallacher to be irrational as she was claiming the constables were there to kill her and harm her.

They attempted to detain her under the Mental Health Act but she became aggressive towards paramedics saying she would slit their wrists and told them to f*** off.

She was conveyed to Hawick Police Station but appeared to be unconscious in the vehicle.

She then kicked a police constable on the chest and leg and was laughing as she did this.

Gallacher was assessed by medical staff and found to be in full control of her actions.

She was cautioned and charged in relation to one of the charges and replied: "I don't care."

The cost of the damage to the window was put at £150.

The court was told that Gallacher is a student based in Kilmaurs, Ayrshire, and receives a bursary of £168 per fortnight.

She was ordered to pay £150 compensation for the damage to the window at the rate of £10 per month.

Gallacher was given a 15-month Community Payback Order with supervision.
