THE number of coronavirus cases per 100,000 in the Borders is now lower than 30, according to Public Health Scotland.

Between February 6 and 12, the Borders recorded 32 cases – which is a seven-day case rate of 27.7 per 100,000 of the population.

This is down from a rate of 51.9 per 100,000, based on the period from February 2-8.

Public Health Scotland has also created an interactive map showing 30 'neighbourhoods' in the Borders.

Between February 6-12, the vast majority of areas recorded fewer than three positive cases of COVID-19.

Twenty-six out of the 30 areas have had their case rate 'suppressed' by Public Health Scotland in order to "protect patient confidentiality".

The areas with fewer than three cases and suppressed case rates are: Tweeddale West and East Areas; Selkirk; Peebles South and North Areas; Melrose and Tweedbank Area; Lauder and Area; Langlee; Kelso South and North; Jedburgh; Hawick West end, North, and Central; Galashiels South, West, and North; Eyemouth; Ettrick and Lilliesleaf Area; Earlston Stow and Clovenfords Area; Duns; Coldstream and Area; Chirnside and Area; Cheviot West and East; and Burnfoot.

The area which has the highest case rate is St Boswells and Newtown Area (seven new cases) which recorded a seven-day case rate of 184.3 per 100,000.

Denholm and Hermitage, Berwickshire Central and Berwickshire East all reported rates between 71.9 to 80 per 100,000 and three positive cases from February 6 and 12.
