SCOTTISH Borders Council’s emergency planning officer is urging people to “remain vigilant”, with parts of the region at risk of flooding.

The Met Office has issued an amber warning for rain, which is now in place until 6am tomorrow (Wednesday). It covers some western and central areas.

The council’s emergency planning officer, Jim Fraser, said: “An amber weather warning for significant rain and wind remains in place overnight until 6am tomorrow, which has the potential to cause flooding across western and central parts of the Borders.

“There is a real potential for disruption with heavy rain leading to localised flooding and potentially flooded properties in at risk areas.

“We are therefore urging the public to remain vigilant during this period of bad weather.

“We remain in constant contact with the Met Office and SEPA who are providing regular weather updates to inform our decision-making.

“Our emergency bunker will remain in operation throughout today and tomorrow to work closely with our partners including Police Scotland and Scottish Fire and Rescue Service to monitor the situation.”
