PARENTS and children are getting covered in “muck” because of drainage issues at a Borders play park.

Innerleithen Community Council member George Brown says the play area at Victoria Park is an “absolute bog” and insists more drainage needs installed.

He said: “If anyone was to go a walk past there they will see for themselves, it’s very muddy.”

Community council member Jackie Couchman expressed agreement.

This week, members of the community council were promised that upon completion of the destination play park in Peebles, funding would be released to make improvements to play areas in neighbouring towns and villages.

Tweeddale East councillor Shona Haslam said: “Once the big play park is done in Peebles we are going to have some money to re-do existing play parks.

“I know the Victoria Park one is on the list.

“It’s had stuff added to it and there’s not a lot of thought gone into how it looks.

“It’s a great play park, but we just need to have a look at it to make sure it’s laid out properly with surfacing.”
