SCOTTISH Conservative candidate Jenny Linehan has won the Leaderdale and Melrose by-election organised by Scottish Borders Council.
The result was announced today (Friday, March 12) at the Volunteer Hall in Galashiels, following yesterday's vote.
In her speech, Ms Linehan said she felt "overwhelmed" and thanked her supporters, her fellow candidates and everyone involved in organising the contest and count.
She joins David Parker (independent) and Tom Miers (Conservatives) as a representative for Leaderdale and Melrose.
The by-election was arranged following the death of SNP councillor Kevin Drum in March 2020.
The seven candidates were: Jonny Adamson (Scottish Liberal Democrats); Mary Douglas (independent); Jenny Linehan (Scottish Conservatives); Michael Needham (Scottish Green Party); John PatonDay (SNP); Scott Redpath (Scottish Labour Party); and Karen Wilks (independent).
