A SECTION of a major Borders road is set to close overnight.

The A68 south of Earlston will be shut on Monday (March 22) between 8.30pm and 6.30am, according to BEAR Scotland.

Traffic will be diverted between Earlston and St Boswells via the A699, the A6089 and the A6105, but emergency vehicles will be escorted through the site.

The closure will allow resurfacing to be done on the bridge over the Leader Water.

Temporary traffic lights will be in place from Tuesday (March 23) until Friday (March 26) between 9.30am to 4.30pm.

Chris Tracey, BEAR Scotland’s Unit Bridges Manager, said: “This essential maintenance work will increase the overall service life of the bridge and its surface.

“It is essential for the safety of workers and road users that we close the road during resurfacing, however we’ve scheduled this part of the project overnight to minimise disruption.

“We thank motorists in advance for their patience and encourage them to plan ahead by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up-to-date travel information.”
