PLANNED work on a major Borders road has been postponed because nesting birds were discovered on the site, according to the contractor.
The A68 bridge over the Leader Water, south of Earlston, was supposed to get resurfaced this evening (Monday, March 22) and overnight.
But now BEAR Scotland has revealed that nesting birds were found on the bridge, so the work will take place at a later date.
A spokesperson said: “This week's planned works on the A68 bridge over the Leader Water south of Earlston have been postponed, after nesting birds were discovered on the structure.
“The works will be rescheduled in a few weeks' time after the chicks have fledged and the nest is no longer in use.”
The original plan was to close the A68 south of Earlston overnight, with temporary traffic lights then due to be set up from Tuesday until Friday.
