BORDERS Pet Rescue has got in touch to showcase Xena, who is this week’s Pet of the Week.

The non-profit charity is based in the Borders and deals with the care and re-homing of domestic pets.

This week, the rescue centre is encouraging applications from potential adopters to home Xena, a “shy” cat.

“Xena is looking for a very special home,” said a Borders Pet Rescue spokesperson. “She is not feral but is also not comfortable with human contact, but she does like her heated chalet and will shout for her dinner.

“Xena will choose to run and hide from people but becomes defensive if she is cornered.

“She will take a long time to come round and may always be a shy, nervous cat so a patient and experienced owner is essential.

“Xena would not cope with living with children or other animals.

“We may consider putting Xena out in foster initially allowing a potential adopter to get to know her quirks and when she is being pushed out of her comfort zone (which she will display very clearly in her body language) and will also allow Xena more time to settle, but it will be a long-term commitment as we believe Xena is a very young cat, under two years old.

“Xena will also need outdoor access eventually but she needs to settle into her new home first before she can go outside.”

If you believe you can offer Xena this type of arrangement, visit borderspetrescue.org for more information or to complete an online application.
