A SEX offender from Galashiels who failed to tell police officers of his new address has been jailed for eight months at Selkirk Sheriff Court

Callum Millar, 23, moved in with his partner to her new home in Gullane in East Lothian between December 2019 and March 2020.

But he omitted to tell a supervising police officer of his change of circumstances which he is required to do under the notification requirements of the Sex Offenders Act.

The offence came to light when the relationship broke up and Millar moved back to his mother's home in Glendinning Terrace, Galashiels, and then his ex-partner told police what had been going on.

His lawyer said that Millar claimed the partner did not want her new neighbours to know his history which is why he was "not as candid with the police as he should have been”.

Millar’s lawyer added that the partner was quick to inform the police when the relationship ended, which Millar described as "vindictive”.

The court heard that Millar is currently on remand in connection with another matter which has yet to go to trial.

Sheriff Peter Paterson imposed an eight-month jail sentence.
