A BORDERS man who admitted possessing an extreme pornographic image featuring bestiality and also indecent photos of children has been sentenced to 200 hours of unpaid work at Selkirk Sheriff Court.

Jonathan McHaffie, 50, pleaded guilty to two offences which happened at his home in Lamancha near West Linton between October 2019 and February 2020.

The court heard that the extreme pornography involved females having sex with horses.

The former tax manager also admitted having eight indecent images of children - two in category B and six in category C, the latter being the least serious category.

Defence lawyer Ed Hulme said the first offender had moved into the "darker areas of the internet”.

Sheriff Peter Paterson gave McHaffie one year to complete the unpaid work as part of the Community Payback Order which was imposed as an alternative to custody.

He was made subject to the notification requirements of the Sexual Offences Act for five years.

The Crown also made a successful application for the forfeiture of a Samsung hard drive which belonged to McHaffie.
