A FORMER café and shop at a Borders tourist attraction is now available to rent.

Unit 1 at Tweed Mill Business Park, Selkirk, used to be home to the Lochcarron of Scotland café and shop.

But the premises, off Dunsdale Road, is now listed as ‘to let’ by estate agent Edwin Thompson. The guide rent is £33,000 a year.

Edwin Thompson describes the café and shop as a “modern” space with an “attractive curved façade to Dunsdale Road”.

The agent adds: “The accommodation comprises: open plan unit with split level ceiling heights and high specification of finish for current use as a café and associated retail outlet; office, ladies, gents and accessible WCs.

“There may also be scope for a range of other uses in keeping with the estate including Class 11 Gym, Class 10 Creche, Day Nursery, or similar subject to obtaining all necessary consents.

“Riverside is considered one of the region’s main commercial centres.

“It has benefitted from significant private and public investment within recent years.

“Investment has included works to form Tweed Mill Business Park itself which has been transformed into a modern business park.”

In August 2020, Lochcarron made 14 redundancies at its Selkirk site, citing difficulties caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

The company has announced it is moving its visitor centre from Dunsdale Road to the “main mill complex of Waverley Mill on Rogers Road”.

Lochcarron’s managing director Dawn Robson-Bell said: “The move is partly motivated by the impact that COVID has had on the tourism market in Scotland and which will continue to be felt possibly throughout 2021.

"However, it is also an opportunity to fully integrate the retail store within the mill itself and enhance the visitor experience.

“For the moment we are open on Dunsdale Road on an appointment-only basis for made-to-measure or private shopping experiences and we may choose to open more fully should visitor numbers improve.

“The actual relocation will take place towards the end of this year to relaunch for spring 2022, with updates available on social media or via our website.”
