THE Borders has recorded 18 new cases of coronavirus in the last 24 hours, according to the latest statistics.

At 2pm today (Friday, June 11), the Scottish Government published updated figures.

And according to the new data, the Borders has now recorded 2,984 cases of coronavirus since the start of the pandemic.

Eighteen cases is the highest number recorded during a 24-hour period since February 4.

NHS Borders announced today that an outbreak at St Peter's Primary in Galashiels has been linked to 30 cases of the virus.

Across Scotland there have been 244,714 cases of COVID-19 recorded since March last year.

There are still fewer than five people in hospital in the Borders with recently confirmed cases of the virus, the new figures show.
