A MAN broke into a supermarket in a Borders town and stole various items, say police.

Officials say the incident at Morrisons in Hawick took place at around 3.10am this morning (July 3).

The man "forced entry" into the Mart Street store before taking a quantity of razor blades, children's clothes, hedge trimmers and a barbecue, say police.

The man is described as in his 40s, of medium build and was wearing dark clothing and a face covering during the incident.

Detective sergeant Jamie Gilmore, of Galashiels CID, said: "We are appealing to members of the public who may have information in relation to the break in at Morrisons supermarket in the early hours of this morning.

"I would also ask those who were in the area around the time of the incident and have dashcam footage that may assist with our investigation to get in touch."
