A CONSULTATION is being held on suggested changes to school Christmas holiday dates in the Borders.

People are being asked to choose from one of two options.

Option one proposes that no changes are made to the existing holiday dates for 2021/22, which are December 23 to January 10 and for 2022/23, which are December 22 to January 9.

Option two proposes an earlier finish and earlier start, so 2021/22 would be December 21 to January 5 and 2022/23 would be December 21 to January 4.

Councillor Carol Hamilton, executive member for children and young people (pictured), said: “Although the school holiday dates for this coming session were agreed and published several years ago, we have been approached by a number of parents and staff about adjusting the Christmas holiday dates. Some feel a slightly earlier finish in December would allow children, families and staff more time to enjoy the Christmas festivities and this would be beneficial.

“I would encourage anyone with an interest to make sure they take the time to give us your feedback as we are keen to have as representative a view of local opinion as possible.”

The consultation is open until Sunday, August 22 and is available online at: www.scotborders.gov.uk/christmasholidaysurvey

The outcome of the consultation will be communicated as soon as possible after the closing date. It will also be published at: www.scotborders.gov.uk/schoolholidays
