CONTRACTS worth more than £1 million have been awarded by the council for support on school projects in the region.

A contract totalling £368,000 has been won by Glasgow architecture firm Stallan Brand for “consultancy support” on the Peebles High School project.

A consultation with the public is currently ongoing to consider the detail of the external designs for the town’s new state-of-the-art campus.

The council has now awarded a contract to the firm – currently appointed as technical architect for the design and construction stage – to “lead on the extended community consultation and stakeholder engagement”.

A Scottish Borders Council (SBC) spokesperson said: “The council considers that best value can be achieved by appointing the same architect for consistency and their knowledge of the project to date.

“The services will extend through to the successful completion of the project, including client fit out and commissioning.”

According to a notice on Public Contracts Scotland, the Glasgow firm was the only bidder for the contract.

Meanwhile, the council has also awarded a £700,000 contract for “project and cost management services for Earlston Primary School stages 3-7”. The only bidder for the contract was Edinburgh firm Turner & Townsend.

On the development, a SBC spokesperson said the project “will see the primary school site redeveloped and a host of local facilities provided at the same location”.
