ONE person died in the Borders last week with coronavirus mentioned on their death certificate, latest figures show.

The National Records of Scotland (NRS) published an update at 12pm today (August 4) covering the week July 26-August 1.

During that seven-day period, there was one coronavirus-related death in the Borders, according to the new data.

The region has now recorded 50 deaths this year, with the total since the start of the pandemic standing at 154.

Forty six deaths where coronavirus was mentioned on the death certificate were recorded last week in Scotland.

This represents a decrease of 10 deaths from the previous week.

As at August 1, there have been a total of 3,668 deaths registered in Scotland where COVID-19 was mentioned on the death certificate so far this year.
