THREE people died in the Borders last week with coronavirus mentioned on their death certificate, latest figures show.

The National Records of Scotland (NRS) published an update at 12pm today (August 11) covering the week August 2-8.

During that seven-day period, there were three coronavirus-related death in the Borders, according to the new data.

Previously, for the three weeks between July 12 and August 1, the Borders recorded a total of three deaths by these measures (one each week).

The region has now recorded 53 deaths this year, with the total since the start of the pandemic standing at 157.

Fifty one deaths where coronavirus was mentioned on the death certificate were recorded last week in Scotland.

As at August 8, there have been a total of 3,719 deaths registered in Scotland where COVID-19 was mentioned on the death certificate so far this year.
