A HEARTFELT tribute to former Selkirk Provost Jim Newlands has been paid by Plattling Town Council.
Jim played a leading role in helping to establish the twinning partnership between Selkirk and the Bavarian town in 1998. Plattling’s Mayor, Hans Schmalhofer, sent the following message to the current Provost of Selkirk, Keith Miller.
“Jim Newlands was one of the founding fathers of the town twinning between Selkirk and Plattling, and in October, 2018, received an honorary certificate in recognition of his exceptional support for our town twinning on the occasion of its 20th anniversary. He was always a great host for our citizens, and it was always a pleasure to welcome him to Plattling. The members of Plattling Town Council will cherish the memories of Jim Newlands. Our sincere condolences go to his family.”
On August 7 Souters paid their final respects to Jim as the cortege passed through Selkirk on its way to the Borders Crematorium.
