THE Great Tapestry of Scotland visitor centre will open its doors in Galashiels this week.
And local businesses hope the new attraction will help boost the town’s high street.
Craig Murray, owner of Alex Dalgetty & Sons bakery, said: “Businesses like ours are already beginning to see the great benefits The Great Tapestry of Scotland will bring to the town, as we’ve supplied lunches to construction workers throughout the construction period.
“Our Scotch pies and soups have sold particularly well since they’ve been working on site.”

Adam Elder, director of Why Not?, added: “It’s going to be fantastic for the area and further supporting regeneration. We look forward to its opening and welcoming all those who visit.”
His view was also shared by Naomi Harrod, owner of Unwind Yarns on Channel Street.
She added: “Having the tapestry here is something every business owner I’ve spoken to is looking forward to. It looks amazing, and really will breathe more life into the town.”
Tickets to see the artwork went on sale online last week – ahead of the grand opening on Thursday.
