THE Borders recorded more than 170 new cases of coronavirus over the weekend, figures show.

According to Scottish Government data released at 2pm today (Monday, August 30) since Friday (August 27) the number of positive cases in the Borders rose by 171 from 5,502 to 5,673.

The number of people in hospital in the Borders with confirmed COVID-19 currently stands at 18 – two fewer than on Friday.

Since March 2020 Scotland has recorded 424,508 cases of COVID-19.

And nationally there are currently 551 people in hospital with recently confirmed cases of coronavirus.
