A HAWICK teenager slashed the tyres of his partner’s vehicle after finding out she had been cheating on him, Jedburgh Sheriff Court has been told.

Nineteen-year-old Jordan Shiel pleaded guilty to charges of vandalism and threatening or abusive behaviour.

Alaison Atkins, prosecuting, said Shiel had been in the woman’s car when he received a telephone call to say she had been cheating on him and matters arose as a result of that.

She added: “He spoke to the complainer by telephone at which point he was very upset and was threatening to cause damage to her vehicle.”

Shiel used a Stanley knife to slash one of the tyres before handing her back the keys to the vehicle.

The court heard he returned later and slashed another two tyres.

He has since paid for the tyres to be replaced.

Defence lawyer Colin Severin said the couple were still in a relationship.

Shiel was fined a total of £300 for both offences and ordered to pay a £20 Victim Surcharge.
