FORMER council convener Alasdair Hutton has been formally inducted as a “Legend” at the school he attended in Australia.
The school developed the idea in 2007 to identify past students who were regarded as inspirations.
Other 'Legends' from Brisbane State High include a former governor general of Australia, a former world leader of the Salvation Army, six Olympic medallists, sporting heroes and leaders from business, the arts, academia and politics.
The Kelso-based storyteller and his family family emigrated to Australia after his father died in 1954.
Mr Hutton said: “I was not there that long and was not a distinguished student, so I am still flabbergasted at the honour and greatly humbled by it."
Because of the COVID pandemic he was unable to travel to Brisbane to receive his award.
But the plaque marking his achievement has travelled half-way round the world to reach him safely in Kelso.
“When I look at the really distinguished men and women with whom I am rubbing shoulders, I cannot fathom why I was chosen but I am immensely proud to be named amongst them,” Mr Hutton added.
