A BORDERS road is closed in both directions following an “incident”, according to traffic officials.
The A6091 was shut just before 10am this morning (September 1), says a Traffic Scotland spokesperson.
Borderers are being encouraged to use an alternative route.
The spokesperson said: “The A6091 is closed in both directions near to Borders General Hospital due to a road traffic incident, road users are advised to use an alternative route at this time and allow extra time for their journey.”
The closure is currently impacting Borders Buses services.
A spokesperson said: "Due to a RTA, Melrose by-pass is closed at present. Our Services 60 and 61 will operate to/from Melrose via Gattonside.
"Services 67 and 68 will operate to/from Melrose via Bowden for Newtown. We apologise for any inconvenience caused."
In an update published at 1.15pm, Traffic Scotland confirmed that emergency services are in attendance.
The spokesperson said the road is likely to remain closed "for some time".
