POLICE in the Scottish Borders are appealing for witnesses to a disturbance that took place in the early hours of Sunday 5 September.

The incident took place near to the Horse statue in Hawick High Street around 3:30am.

A man was assaulted during the disturbance and now officers want to speak to anyone who was in the area around that time.

A statement issued by Police Scotland on social media reads: “Police are appealing for witnesses and anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact us on 101 and quote incident no 0780 of the 5th of September.

“Alternatively, If you have any information about this, you can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers 100% anonymously on 0800 555 111 or via their anonymous online form at crimestoppers-uk.org.”
