THIS YEAR'S Eildon Hill Race took place took place on Saturday, having moved from its traditional June date due to COVID restrictions.

And the 7.15km event, which includes a total ascent of 510m, celebrated its 60th anniversary having first been run in 1961.

The 2021 start/finish and route were different to previous years to facilitate social distancing, but still crossed each of the iconic three Eildon Hills.

First to finish was James Espie of Deeside Runners who completed the course in a time of 32:09 minutes. Second was Sam Fisher of Howgill Harriers in 32:39 minutes and third was James Dunn of Corstorphine AAC in 32:49 minutes.

The category winners were as follows – Women: 1st Heather Anderson. FU20: 1st Alice Goodall (unattached). M40: 1st Michael Reid (Carnethy Hill Racing Club). F40: Heather Anderson (Fife Athletic Club). M50: 1st Andrew Macrae (Carnethy Hill Racing Club). F50: 1st Susan Ridley (Edinburgh Athletics Club). M60: 1st Des Crowe (Penicuik Harriers). F60: 1st Jocelyn Richard (Gala Harriers). M70: 1st Murdo Macleod (Westerlands Cross Country Club). Team Awards M: 1st Carnethy Hill Racing Club. Team Awards F: 1st Gala Harriers. Masters M: 1st Carnethy Hill Racing Club. Masters F: 1st Gala Harriers.
