A PEEBLESSHIRE gin has been nominated at this year's Scottish Gin Awards.

Peebles Hydro 1881 has been nominated in three categories at the fifth annual awards to be held in Glasgow next month.

The Peebles gin has been named in the London dry gin (1881 London Dry); high strength gin (1881 Honours Navy Strength); and flavoured gin (1881 Tiffin gin) categories.

Charlie Leckie, 1881 brand manager, said: “We are delighted to see three of our core range of gins nominated for the Scottish Gin Awards, particularly given the brand was relaunched less than a year ago.

“We are especially delighted to see our Tiffin Gin nominated for Flavoured Gin of the Year. When we appointed Dean McDonald as distiller, his first task was to create a gin influenced by eastern spices for a new menu concept at Peebles Hydro Hotel and it was so popular, Tiffin Gin was added to our core collection.

“We’re also pleased to see our Hydro Gin and Honours Gin recognised too. Honours Gin is one of our bestsellers and already has two industry awards under its belt. We are looking forward to finding out if any of our fantastic gins have won at next month’s ceremony.”

As part of the awards, 320 gins were assessed in a blind tasting judged by 45 industry professionals.

Adam Hardie – a partner and head of food and drink at Johnston Carmichael accountancy – chairs the Scottish Gin Awards.

Mr Hardie said: "The quality of gin produced in Scotland continues to be world class.

"To make it to the finals is a huge achievement and all these gin businesses which highlight the quality and diversity of the Scottish gin industry.

"It is particularly impressive given the challenges of the last eighteen months that real resilience, innovation, and creativity has been shown in the competition entries.

"Congratulation to all the finalists and we look forward to the live event in October.”
