AFTER being shelved last year due to the coronavirus pandemic, Galashiels pantomime will return to the town this winter.

The Right Angle Theatre Company – who has performed for the last 25 years – has confirmed that the annual show will resume.

The last performance put on by the group was Beauty and the Beast in December 2019.

Gordon Keddie from the Right Angle Theatre Company said: “The company has been rehearsing for the pantomime since late August and things are progressing very nicely with the cast of over forty working very hard to produce a show of the usual very high standard.”

Last year, when the company was forced to cancel its 2020 production, Mr Keddie told the Border Telegraph: “Due to many factors outwith the company’s control, most of which are down to regulations laid down due to COVID-19, the company had no alternative but to cancel this year’s show.”

The show will return to the Volunteer Hall on Tuesday, December 7, with Dick Whittington.

The production will run until Saturday, December 12.

The musical director and director roles for Dick Whittington will be filled by Derek Calder.

Mr Keddie added: “The very talented Stuart Mitchell is again taking the role of choreographer and Julie Smith is putting the children through their paces.

“The script for the show has once again been provided by Alan Frayn and contains the usual amount of slapstick and humour which is sure to bring a smile to the audiences’ faces.

“Once again, the production team have selected a varied bunch of songs and music therefore complimenting Alan’s script which in turn will guarantee a first class pantomime.”

Tickets for Dick Whittington will go on sale next month and will be available from Fountain News and Noble’s Fish Shop.

Organisers of the pantomime advise booking early to avoid disappointment.
