A BORDERS MP has commented on the proposed constituency boundary changes which could come into force as part of the 2023 Review.

The Boundary Commission of Scotland published its proposals yesterday (October 14) which outlined new boundary lines for UK constituencies in Scotland.

As part of the review there has been a "minor change" to Clovenfords and Caddonfoot in the Berwickshire, Roxburgh, and Selkirk constituency – as part of the 2023 review they will be brought into the Dumfriesshire, Clydesdale and Tweeddale constituency.

Berwickshire, Roxburgh, and Selkirk MP John Lamont, who represents the Conservatives, said: "I have always been of the view that during any boundary review the Borders communities within the existing constituency of Berwickshire, Roxburgh and Selkirk should remain in one constituency.

"Although there are minor changes around Clovenfords, I am pleased to see that principle recognised in the Commission's initial proposals."

Under this review, Berwickshire, Roxburgh, and Selkirk will have an electorate of 73,779, and Dumfriesshire, Clydesdale and Tweeddale will have an electorate of 73,593.

There will now be an eight-week-long consultation process for constituents to have their say on the proposed boundary changes across Scotland's 57 constituencies.

Mr Lamont added: “As we now enter an eight week consultation period, I would encourage local residents to take part in the consultation as it is vital that views from Borderers are heard.

"I look forward to the outcome of this process.”
