A BORDERS man who fractured another man's jaw in an apparent revenge attack has been ordered to carry out 180 hours unpaid work at Selkirk Sheriff Court.

Forty-six-year-old Don Napier, of Leslie Place, Selkirk, pleaded guilty to assaulting the man to his severe injury after striking him with a piece of wood at a house in the town on November 19.

He also admitted possession of an offensive weapon, namely a piece of wood.

Depute fiscal Joanne Waller told a private hearing that the accused had found the tyres of his vehicle slashed at around 7am.

At 8.30am the victim and a witness were in a house when there was a loud bang at the door.

She said Napier then struck the victim to the right leg and also to the head.

Ms Wallet said the victim saw Napier holding a piece of wood.

The following day police attended at Napier's home address and he was arrested and taken to Hawick Police Station where he was cautioned and charged and gave a no comment interview.

The court was told the victim was taken to Borders General Hospital where he was examined by a doctor and found to have swelling and bruising to the right cheek and other facial injuries.

The victim was referred to St John's Hospital in Livingston where he was examined again and found to have a lower jaw fracture.

The fiscal described the injuries as non life threatening.

Sheriff Peter Paterson said the Community Pay Back Order involving 180 hours unpaid work was to be completed within 12 months.
