A GROUP of staff from Asda in Galashiels have raised more than £600 for the ‘Tickled Pink’ campaign following a sponsored walk.

The eight women, one man and a dog left the store at 10am last Wednesday and walked to the Ship Inn in Melrose where they were rewarded with a buffet courtesy of T-4-2.

After refuelling, the group returned to a hero’s welcome from friends and colleagues at the supermarket – having completed around 23,000 steps and 10-miles each.

Asda community colleague Nola Milne told the Border Telegraph: “Asda has been in partnership with Tickled Pink for 25 years and we have a big fundraising month at our Galashiels store raising funds for this very worthy cause. Most of us have been affected by breast cancer either directly or indirectly and we want to show our support through various activities throughout the month.

“Along with this walk, we are having events in store such as raffles and games. We definitely collected over £100 in our bucket during the walk today and we are still getting in donations.

“We would like to thank Frances from T-4-2 in Gala for kindly donating some sandwiches, sausage rolls and tray bake which she delivered to the Ship for us.

“Also, thank you to The Ship Inn for accommodating us for our pit stop and doing us some pizzas and more water to keep us going – all this and a very kind donation.

“We would also like to give a heart-felt thank you to the community for all the support we received during our walk- all the waves and beeps from passers-by gave us a real boost.”

Those taking part in the walk were Nola Milne, Haydee Lofthouse, Nikki Carlin, Shell Smith, Michelle Amos, Mel Turnbull, Peter Purves, Leigh Millar, Sheila Smith and, of course, Sasha the dog.

The ‘Tickled Pink’ campaign involves working with partners, Breast Cancer Now and CoppaFeel!, to raise vital funds for world-class research, support for those affected by breast cancer and to educate colleagues, customers and suppliers to be breast aware.
