Six Borders restaurants feature in the AA restaurant guide 2022, detailing some of the best food spots in the UK.

The 2022 release marks the book's 28th edition, with each copy rounding up the best restaurants by county across Britain, alongside detailed descriptions of the location and often sample menus.

Restaurants can be awarded 1-5 rosettes by inspectors, and while no Borders venues received the prestigious five, one did win three.

Here's what you need to know about the Borders restaurants which feature in the AA 2022 guide...

Which Borders restaurants feature in AA restaurant guide 2022?

1536 Restaurant - Eddleston

One rosette

Situated in Barony Castle Hotel, the restaurant has spectacular views of the gardens and was the first place in the area to serve steak on a hot lava rock, so the diner can decide how well done they want it.

But don't worry if steak isn't your thing, the AA guide described the vegan menu as "very decent" too.

The Capon Tree Town House - Jedburgh

Two rosettes

Serving up French cuisine at this venue in the heart of Jedburgh, with a small bar offering an array of gins.

Described as a "wee place" with lots of good wine pairings, expect "visually impactful" food in classic French style using local produce.

The Cobbles Freehouse & Dining - Kelso

One rosette

Striking a good balance between restaurant and pub, wraps and burgers are on the menu at the bar, while the restaurant offers Scottish inspired dishes that "really impress".

Ednam House Hotel - Kelso

One rosette

This restaurant boasts "idyllic" views of the Tweed, serving dishes such as roast loin of venison with pomme purée, red cabbage, baby beetroot and bitter chocolate sauce.

Sutherland's Restaurant - Peebles

Two rosettes

A seven course Sunday evening tasting menu can be enjoyed under a "stunning" painted ceiling and in front of a big fire, using ingredients from the hotel's own garden.

Windlestraw - Walkerburn

Three rosettes

Personal and attentive service is paired with contemporary Scottish dishes such as ham hock terrine pointed up with cauliflower, piccalilli and prosecco-poached sultanas, venison loin with roasted and puréed celeriac, preserved blackcurrants and chard and Scottish cranachan accompanied by a silky smooth whisky ice cream.
