AN MSP will turn a shop on Galashiels High Street into her constituency office after plans were approved by the council.

Christine Grahame, an SNP representative for Midlothian South, Tweeddale and Lauderdale, will take over the space occupied by The Enchanted Florist.

Despite stating that a retail unit would have been “preferred”, Scottish Borders Council officers have given the green light to change the use of the property to an office.

On the decision, Ms Grahame said: “I am pleased that I can now move forward and re-open a constituency office in Galashiels, where I have been for the last 21 years – it is central to the constituency with good public transport links which is essential.

“With some necessary adaptations due to COVID and for security purposes I hope it will be fully functioning before the end of the year.

“In the meantime my Tesco surgeries in Galashiels and Peebles will commence this month and you can still, as always, contact me and my staff by phone or email or by writing to me at parliament – details are on my website.”
