“VERY strong” winds could hit the Borders later this week, forecasters have warned.

The Met Office has issued two yellow alerts covering the region - one on Friday and one on Saturday.

Strong winds are predicted to develop across the north of Scotland on Friday afternoon and then extend to the south of the country during the evening, with the warning in place until 11pm.

There is then potential for a spell of very windy weather across much of the UK during Saturday, according to the forecasters.

Saturday’s alert covers the period 12am-6pm.

The Met Office says to expect some delays to public transport on Friday and Saturday.
