BORDERERS who are still without power are being urged to find “alternative accommodation” for tonight.

Scottish Borders Council says around 6,500 have been affected.

And it says many could face another night without power.

A spokesperson said: “Following conversations with Scottish Power Energy Networks it is apparent that the majority of the 6,500 homes currently without power will not have supplies restored until tonight at the earliest.

“Many homes could face yet another night without power.

“With a further cold night expected, we are therefore urging those currently without power to find alternative accommodation, for example with friends or family, due to the uncertainty regarding the timing of supplies being restored.

“Anyone with welfare concerns or unable to find alternative accommodation should call the out of hours emergency number 01896 752111 so that appropriate assistance can be provided by the council or partners.

“Resilient Community groups have been contacted and asked to assist wherever possible, however, in these exceptional circumstances we also ask that people check on vulnerable neighbours.

“Given the ongoing situation and uncertainty regarding the duration of the current incident we are putting in place arrangements to mobilise further support for affected communities.”
