CARERS from a Greenock home made a n-ice gesture to raise funds for the senior citizens they look after.

Care assistants Lee Anne Derrick and John McNeil took part in an 'ice bucket challenge' to fundraise for the Little Sisters of the Poor complex in Greenock.

The pair braved the winter chill and were drenched in bitterly cold water by nuns Sister Anne and Mother Anna at the Union Street home.

The event, organised by senior carer Vera McLean, raised in excess of £600.

Greenockian Lee Anne, who has been with the home for three years, told the Tele: "John originally volunteered and then I thought I'd join him so he didn't need to do it on his own.

"It's for a very good cause and brought a bit of joy to the home.

"The residents were either outside or at their windows watching.

"Things haven't been quite the same since Covid-19, so not only did it give everyone a laugh, it also let us raise funds to treat our residents to something special."

As well as taking on the challenge, staff arranged a charity night in Branchton Community Centre with games, raffles and karaoke to raise funds.

Organiser Vera is keen to thank all who helped out.

She added: "We wanted to raise some money for the residents to treat them to something nice.

"We might do a show or pantomime.

"There are so many people to thank, including staff members Lynn, Christine, Kevin and Maggie who helped us with our fundraising.

"We're so grateful to everyone for their support and had a great time doing something that involved everyone at the home."
