PLANS for the former Borders College campus in Galashiels have been revealed.

Eildon Housing has acquired the “key” site as part of plans to provide “much-needed high quality affordable rented homes”.

Nile Istephan, CEO of Eildon Housing, says the housing association is working closely with the council to produce a “detailed proposal” for the site.

“We have acquired the site of the former Borders College, on Melrose Road, Galashiels which has been lying vacant for many years now,” he said. “This site offers a great opportunity for Eildon to provide much needed affordable homes to rent in a popular, central area of the town.”

Mr Istephan added: “This is a significant regeneration site, and we will be able to provide a range of housing options to meet known local needs, as well helping the Borders meet sustainability and climate change targets. Our investment also generates high quality local training and employment opportunities.”

The former campus plans form a part of Eildon’s “record-breaking expansion of housing and care services” in the Borders.

Building work may not start until the summer of 2023, according to the housing association.
