FIGURES around the number of tickets sold for the Great Tapestry centre have been described as “really good”.

The visitor attraction, which opened in Galashiels in August, was discussed at a full council meeting on Thursday, November 25.

During the open questions section of the virtual gathering, Galashiels councillor Harry Scott asked how many paying customers have visited and how much revenue had been made.

Responding, fellow Galashiels councillor Euan Jardine, of the Conservatives, said that 7,705 tickets have been bought, with £69,997 generated since its opening to the public.

According to Mr Jardine, those numbers are “in line with the revised business case projections” made in February which included coronavirus implications on visitor numbers.

Mr Scott, an independent representative, said: “That’s quite gratifying. In these difficult times those figures are very good.

“I look forward to the facility enjoying better times ahead.”

Ahead of the centre opening, the council said it would “attract over 50,000 visitors to Galashiels each year” – creating 16 jobs and almost £900,000 of extra spending per annum.
