PEEBLES Burgh Silver Band recently won the 4th Section of the Borders Entertainment Contest.

On November 6 at The Buccleuch Centre in Langholm, Peebles Burgh Silver Ban joined a number of other Borders bands following the contest’s postponement last year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The band’s musical director Peter Holmes prepared the programme which featured Philip Harper’s arrangement of Fat Bottom Girls by Queen, The Road and the Miles to Dundee arranged by Alan Fernie, and I Will Follow You from Sister Act.

The band retained the trophy they won at the 2019 competition.

At the weekend the band performed at the annual Christmas lights switch-on in Peebles High Street.

Peebles Burgh Silver Band now plans to perform on the High Street each Saturday morning throughout December from 10.30am – weather permitting – and will host a Christmas Concert on Friday, December 17 in the Burgh Hall.

Speaking about these upcoming events, a band spokesperson said: “All of these are much needed fundraising events for the Band following 18 months or so of no fundraising.

“We are extremely grateful to sponsors and donors most recently The Provincial Grand Lodge of The Scottish Borders who provided a grant towards Youth Band tuition.

“Without actions like this we would be unable to offer the free tuition and instruments to all.

“PBSB will be delighted to see you over the festive period and greatly appreciate all the local support it receives.”

Members of the Peebles Burgh Youth Band will also perform at the concert. Tickets for the concert can be purchased from band members or on the night.
