ROAD officials have issued a warning to Borders motorists about upcoming closures in three locations.

Resurfacing works are set to go ahead at Cockburnspath, Tower Farm and Coldingham, according to a BEAR Scotland spokesperson.

On Friday, December 10, the A1 will be closed between the Edinburgh Road junction and Cockburnspath roundabout from 7.30pm until 6am.

A diversion will be in place via Edinburgh Road, adding approximately 0.3 miles and two minutes to affected journeys, say officials.

On the following Monday and Tuesday, the A1 will be closed at Tower Farm, with a diversion signposted from the Berwick-upon-Tweed bypass to Old Craighall roundabout on the A720, via the A6105, A697 and A68.

The diversion will add approximately five miles and 25 minutes to journeys, the spokesperson added.

Then, on Wednesday, December 15, the A1 will remain open, however, a lane closure will be in place at Coldingham with temporary traffic lights.

Due to the nature of the works, the northbound access to the A1107 at its junction with the A1 will be closed.

A diversion via the southbound A1107 (Eyemouth) will be in place, adding approximately one mile and eight minutes for motorists.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s south east network manager, said: “These surfacing improvements will help to address the defects on this section of the A1 and will greatly improve the experience for motorists.

“It is essential that we close the road during these works to ensure the safety of road workers and motorists, however we’ve arranged for the project to take place overnight to minimise the impact.

“We thank motorists and the local community in advance for their patience and understanding. We’ll do all we can to complete the work as quickly and safely as possible.”
