THE Borders recorded four coronavirus-related deaths last week, new figures show.

An update was published by the National Records of Scotland (NRS) at 12pm today (December 8).

The data covers November 29-December 5, during which four deaths were recorded in the Borders.

The total number of deaths where COVID-19 was mentioned on the death certificate this year in the region stands at 101, according to the figures.

In the week before November 29 the region had recorded zero deaths by this measure.

The total since the start of the pandemic stands at 205 in the Borders.

According to an NRS spokesperson, as at November 28, there have been a total of 12,216 deaths in Scotland.
