A BORDERS man has admitted culpable and reckless conduct by spitting towards a police constable during the coronavirus pandemic and exposing him to the risk of injury.

Fifty-three-year-old Keith Beveridge, of Jedburgh, pleaded guilty to the offence which happened at his home in Bongate on November 23 last year and in a police van en-route to Borders General Hospital.

He swore at them repeatedly and approached their vehicle and said he was going to kill himself.

In his home and in the police van he spat towards a police officer several times but they did not connect.

The court heard this was during the COVID pandemic which increased the concerns of the police.

Sentence was deferred for three months for good behaviour when a review of the case will take place.
