A BORDERS man involved in a neighbourly dispute has been fined £140 at Jedburgh Sheriff Court.

Forty-eight-year-old Nikki Stark pleaded guilty to a charge of threatening or abusive behaviour in Mansfield Gardens, Hawick, on November 16 last year by repeatedly shouting and uttering a threat.

Depute fiscal Joanna Waller said Stark and his then partner had returned from a shopping trip and an argument ensued with a neighbour.

He was heard to shout he was "going to smash him".

Defence lawyer Ross Dow said Stark had got himself needlessly involved after there had been an allegation about vandalism.

He explained: "He said something along the lines of instead of smashing the car I will smash you. He shouted other things.

"My client is moving away from the immediate area in a few days time so there will be no repeat."

In addition to the fine Stark was ordered to pay a £10 Victim Surcharge.
