KIND-hearted football fans donated a substantial number of bags containing foodstuff along with £165 cash ahead of Gala Fairydean Rovers game against Bonnyrigg Rose on Saturday.
The appeal was organised by the Gala Fairydean Rovers Community Trust who asked supporters to bring non-perishable items to Netherdale.
And the fans responded with typical Borders generosity.
Secretary of the Community Trust Graeme McIver said: “Our two previous attempts to hold a collection had been frustrated by a combination of the weather and covid.
“However it was third time lucky for us on Saturday and we would like to take this opportunity to thank supporters of both Gala Fairydean Rovers and Bonnyrigg Rose for their generosity and kindness in supporting our local Foodbank.”
Galashiels and Area Foodbank John Tucker Chairman said: “I am so grateful to Gala Fairydean Rovers and everyone involved in raising the food and cash donations.
“We will attend to the food and store it for giving out on Wednesday and once again a very big thank you for the support.”
The Gala Fairydean Rovers FC Community Trust was launched in September 2020 and aims to engage, inspire and empower the people of Galashiels and the Central Borders to live happier, healthier and more fulfilling lives.
The Trust includes the GFR Football Academy, the Gala Fairydean Rovers Amateur Football Squad, the Women’s and Girl’s section, Para (Disability) Football, and over 50s Walking Football.
