A 35-YEAR-OLD man under the influence of Valium caused a disturbance at a house in the Borders after claiming he was trying to find his lost dog.

Andrew Headspeath was travelling on a bus with his dog but when he came around after falling asleep he jumped off the bus at the first stop to look for his pet.

Jedburgh Sheriff Court heard he started banging on the door of a property in Hawick's West Stewart Place causing fear and alarm to the occupier, acting in an aggressive manner.

The householder shut the door on Headspeath and called the police.

A lawyer for Headspeath, of Honeylees Drive, Tweedbank, admitted his client's recollection of the events was "limited".

Headspeath pleaded guilty to a charge of threatening or abusive behaviour.

Not guilty pleas to charges of theft from a vehicle and attempting to open a lockfast place with intent to steal were accepted by the Crown.

Sheriff David Clapham imposed a £200 fine with a £10 Victim Surcharge.
