DODDIE Aid 2022 participants have passed the one million miles in the first three weeks.

Doddie Aid is a mass participation event, encouraging everyone to get active in January and raise funds to help find a cure for Motor Neuron Disease.

It was founded by former Scotland captain and British and Irish Lion, Rob Wainwright.

The event splits participants into five districts, with the winning district being the one which covers the furthest distance over the duration of the event.

So far this year 17,001 people have signed up and Team North and Midlands which has 4712 members and is captained by TV star Lorraine Kelly leads the way with 322,367 miles.

Team South’s 3342 members who are co-captained by Sammi Kinghorn and Greig Laidlaw have completed 245,691 miles.

The Barbarians who are captained by sports presenter Gabby Logan have 3791 members and have completed 234,894 miles.

Team Edinburgh captained by Davy Zyw are in fourth place. Their 2846 members have completed 203,087 miles.

Glasgow who are captained by Al Kellock are in fifth place. Their 2310 members have completed 137,328.

The current total is 1,143,367 miles.

The event culminates with the ball being transported from BT Murrayfield Stadium to the Principality Stadium Cardiff on 12 February when Scotland play Wales for the Doddie Weir Cup in this year’s Six Nations.
